Santillan JP, and Santillan JR.

J. Educ. Manage. Stud.,15(4): 43-53, 2025; pii:S232247702500006-15

DOI: https://dx.doi.org/10.54203/jems.2025.6

Abstract
This study examined the impact of self-directed learning through digital platforms on the creative and design skills of a 5-year-old child participant, using Minecraft and YouTube tutorials as primary tools. A qualitative single-case study design was employed to explore the participant’s independent learning patterns and creative outputs over one month. Data collection methods included observations, semi-structured interviews, and analysis of creative works. Thematic and content analyses revealed notable development in the participant’s creativity and problem-solving abilities through engagement with Minecraft and tutorial-based learning. Parental involvement was identified as critical in balancing screen time and guiding digital engagement, emphasizing the dual role of technology in early childhood education. Findings highlight the potential of digital platforms to foster creativity and support early learners in developing essential skills, with implications for integrating responsible digital practices into early childhood education frameworks.

Mtasigazya P, and Ngatunga V.

J. Educ. Manage. Stud., 15(4): 54-71, 2025; pii:S232247702500007-15

DOI: https://dx.doi.org/10.54203/jems.2025.7

Abstract
The purpose of this paper was to examine effectiveness of health and safety measures on employees’ performance in Tanzania government chemistry laboratory authority. The performance and productivity of employees are closely linked to the health and safety of their working environment, which can serve as a key motivator and influence job satisfaction. Historically, concerns over workplace safety gained prominence during the industrial evolution, marking a shift in work conditions and the recognition of workers' rights to safe environments. The importance of the occupational health and safety at working place led to this study which assessed compliance health and safety measures in Tanzania Government Chemistry Laboratory Authority (GCLA) and its impact on the employees’ performance. Using mixed method approach i.e. quantitative (questionnaires) and qualitative (interviews) data collection methods and analysis, the study found that GCLA has effectively implemented core health and safety protocols, including emergency preparedness, proper handling of hazardous materials, and regular training. These measures were shown to have a positive influence on employee performance. The study concludes with several recommendations, including regular updates to safety policies, the integration of mental health support programs, and the strengthening of monitoring and evaluation systems.

Biology education and the development of gender identity in Tanzanian secondary schools

Masawe FP and Mwila PM

J. Educ. Manage. Stud., 15(4): 72-79, 2025; pii:S232247702500008-15

DOI: https://dx.doi.org/10.54203/jems.2025.8

Abstract
This study aims to examine the role of biology education in shaping gender identity among secondary school students in Bagamoyo District, Tanzania. The research focuses on two main objectives: exploring how the biology curriculum influences students' understanding of gender identity and analyzing the relationship between biology knowledge and gender identity development. A mixed-methods approach was used, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative data collection. The sample consisted of 216 participants, including biology teachers, students, and school heads, selected through purposive and random sampling. Data collection involved the use of questionnaires, interviews, and documentary analysis. The findings revealed that biology education significantly impacts students’ perceptions of gender identity, with biological knowledge contributing to more nuanced understandings of gender roles and stereotypes. However, gaps in the curriculum limit the depth of this impact. The study concludes that biology education can serve as a powerful tool in shaping gender identity when integrated with culturally relevant teaching approaches. The implications of these findings call for curriculum reforms that incorporate comprehensive gender education and the training of teachers to handle gender identity topics effectively. Recommendations include enhancing biology content to cover diverse gender identities and ensuring that teachers are adequately equipped to guide discussions on gender.
